The most recent example: A&E’s airing of the tingly good ”Armadillo,” a high-class thriller drawn from William Boyd’s novel. As far as dramas go, A&E long ago outpaced PBS in serving Anglophiles. Malice defeated, or, A brief relation of the accusation and deliverance of Elizabeth Cellier wherein her proceedings both before and during her confinement are. Well, to answer my own question, millions of people have gone elsewhere for what used to be considered PBS fare - specifically to cable, where the likes of the History Channel and the National Geographic Channel have usurped genres PBS used to own. To this day, the low, thin wail of an infant can be heard in Keldales lush green valleys. Elizabeth George’s first novel, A Great Deliverance, was honored with the Anthony and Agatha Best First Novel Awards and received the Grand Prix de Littrature Policire.
