![]() ![]() I grew more and more disappointed with the "Series of Unfortunate Events" as it reached its end, knowing that nothing was going to be answered. While the books is gorgeously produced and packaged, it is an expensive cheat. The letters read like a back and forth question and answer session between the two characters, once again raising a ton of questions without offering any answers. ![]() With "The Beatrice Letters", one would think Handler has thoroughly cashed in on the Baudelaire series, having penned a series of letters between the clue-searching detective Lemony Snicket and Beatrice Baudelaire. Yet each tale seemed to grow more grandiose, improbable, and mysterious as the series went on, with the last book in the series "The End" offering more questions than answers. ![]() Spawning thirteen books that chornicled the sad and outrageous fate of the three Baudelaire orphans, it was a joy to read about Violet, Klaus and Sunny outwitting their enemies. The story of Spartacus and his army of slave warriors is one of the great epics of history. It is brilliantly written, and in certain sections probably represents the high point in the development of Howard Fast's superb craftsmanship. "SPARTACUS" is a powerful novel of ancient slave society with rich meaning for the liberation struggle of our day.
